At 5 I walked out with all my ladies and gentlemen; I had not been out many minutes when Lord Melbourne joined me, and walked near me the whole time. We walked down to Adelaide Cottage. Lord M. Asked me if Uncle Leopold was very angry with Mamma I said Pretty well; upon which Lord M. Observed laughing, I think he's afraid of her, which I fear is the case. I asked Lord M. If he thought I should walk round the Terrace; I think it would be better, he replied. In going up to the terrace, there is a very steep hill which is a dreadful pull, and Lord M. And I were quite blown in coming up. I then walked round the terrace, crowded to an amazing degree with people, between Lord Melbourne and Lord Torrington, — Lady Normanby just behind me, and also the other ladies; and my 3 other gentlemen in front; it was hot work.
