A lone motorcyclist whose ride is interrupted when he runs out of gas and stumbles upon Still Valley, a quaint, almost timeless small town tucked away in a hidden valley. What begins as a simple stop for fuel soon turns into something more—he is warmly welcomed by the townsfolk: Henry, the friendly gas station mechanic; Miss Mallery, who runs the diner; her daughter Anne Marie, the town librarian; and several other colorful locals. As he spends time in Still Valley, he is drawn into the town’s charm, forming close bonds, especially with Anne Marie. He experiences moments of nostalgia, friendship, and a budding romance, making him question the burdens and morally gray work he left behind. But as he enjoys this slice of ordinary happiness, his darker past and dangerous profession come into focus. Away from Still Valley, he is revealed to be a covert government contractor, tasked with black operations that blur the line between patriotism and assassination. His latest assignment—to eliminate Li Jing, the daughter of a Chinese crime lord, and her young son—tests the boundaries of his morality. Struggling between duty and conscience, he begins to suspect that even his circumstances may be part of a larger setup. Torn between the serenity of Still Valley and the shadows of his lethal profession, he must decide whether to follow the path of violence he knows or embrace the new life—and love—that Still Valley seems to promise. As he navigates this dangerous double life, the question looms: Is Still Valley a chance at redemption and peace, or just another illusion masking the shadows closing in on him? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Reviews: Podcast Review: https://youtu. be/hyj_UYr5jYY?si=rKl2xy7Wm1XjMB9S The Mystery of Still Valley: I don’t usually listen to or read mysteries, but you had me on the edge of my seat the whole time AND it had such a fabulous ending. I have thought a lot about it. I loved your character development, the descriptions, the suspense, the love story, hope, drama, everything. I still have a smile on my face. -Nancy S. The Mystery of Still Valley: Thank you so much for sharing this incredible book! From the very first line, "May your Joy always be found here," it completely pulls you in. The chapters build suspense so well, creating this growing sense that Still Valley holds deep, dark secrets. They really stand out as the most mysterious and pivotal moments in the book. And then... Chinese organized crime? What a twist! The ending truly makes you reflect—Still Valley feels like life itself, where we move through different situations, meet new people, and each of them has their own story and influences. But when we try to go back to those moments, they’re just... gone. It’s such a powerful reminder to cherish the present, because everything changes so fast. -L, Ruez- The Mystery of Still Valley: I finished the book. I found myself wishing it was longer, I was quite disappointed that it ended. It was really good. Would I buy or recommend this book? Absolutely. Its every bit as good as the “career authors out there”. -Neil B.- The Mystery of Still Valley: I can’t believe I’m the first to leave a review or a rating for this book. I was mindlessly scrolling through Storytel and landed upon this little treasure ! An author I haven’t heard of and a book with no reviews online at all - I’m not the one to bravely go ahead and taking a chance anyways. But, I’m glad I did. It’s a great short story and much better than some of the novellas I’ve read lately! -Shruthi- Audio Review: https://youtu.be/hyj_UYr5jYY?si=rKl2xy7Wm1XjMB9S
