The Nine of Us: Growing Up Kennedy by Jean Kennedy Smith | Conversation Starters
The Nine of Us: Growing Up Kennedy” is a memoir by ambassador Jean Kennedy Smith, the eighth of the nine children born to Joseph P. Kennedy Sr. and Rose Fitzgerald. In her book, she looks back at a time long ago when she and her siblings (including future President John F. Kennedy, Senator Ted Kennedy, Senator Robert F. Kennedy, and Special Olympics founder Eunice Kennedy Shriver) were having fun and learning from their parents under one roof. Michael Shnayerson from The New York Times described the book as a short but engaging reading, explaining that much goes unsaid but, considering that Jean Kennedy Smith is the last of her generation, she has the right to tell the story as she wishes.
