Compositore e direttore d'orchestra inglese. Esponente del movimento di rinascita della musica inglese sviluppatosi al principio del secolo, si adoperò come direttore d'orchestra per la diffusione della produzione nazionale. Adottò nelle sue composizioni uno stile impressionistico eclettico, spesso di ispirazione esotica (Omar Khayyam, per voci, coro e orchestra, 1906; l'opera The Seal Woman, 1924 ecc.).
