The distant future looks promising.and menacing at the same time.

The humanity hasn't really spread through the galaxy. It was always there, waiting to grow and stretch its technological tendrils into a collective. The ultimate goals was to connect with its many star-clans through alliances—and common enemies.

The Rimworlds are the distant coveted frontier—raw and unexplored. When the Allies establish a Regency on Synoor, a charming frontier world that's strategically positioned between their mortal enemies, the Shoultain Warlords, and the privateer strongholds in New Hebrides, they believe they've gained a huge advantage in the deadly game of galactic expansion. Two decades later, the world is attacked by pirates. Its solitary Allied settlement is razed to the ground. No one is thought to have survived; certainly not the son of the fleet admiral and his wife who were sent to Synoor to confirm rumors of Shoultain collaboration.and determine whether it's just local lore or whether there's more to the rumors that there is magic in the jungle.

But someone did survive the horrific massacre, though it's not anyone the Admiral Kathryn DeWynter would be proud to enter into her aristocratic family's birth registry. The native servants who fled to the jungle, saved two human children and took them to the only place where they felt would be safe—the mysterious fort believed to be the home of the magic-that-lives-in-the-jungle.

It's how Kitaya comes to call her home the sprawling compound littered with improbable scapes and artifacts. Her caretakers may have felt mercy and compassion when a tribal woman brought an infant to their gate, pleading for help, because the child was female. The other child, however, was a boy and his presence in their ranks is the main source of discord..

Years later, when an Allied ship pulls into orbit the membership of powerful beings sees a chance to restore balance to their ranks. The boy will be sent off-world, to join his kin in the Allied territories. The girl will stay and continue her apprenticeship in 'magic.'

The plan is solid. The timing perfect.if only the child who is the most promising human telepath the frontier gods have ever seen in the galactic human ranks, would comply with their wishes.
