Harari and biological nomenclature

The book is interesting and well written, unfortunately it contains several errors that can distract those who grasp the topics covered, and it is a shame, because the dissemination of science and biology in general is of extreme importance in a world where many (too many) ignore the basics. An example that occurs precisely in the first chapters is the concept of species and in particular that of binomial nomenclature. It is known that all living species are named with a name made of two parts, the genus (e.g. the genus Homo) and the specific epithet (e.g. sapiens). So Homo sapiens refers to our species, and is made up of two indivisible elements. Unfortunately, Harari makes a huge mistake here, because in wanting to explain the concept he makes an (unjustifiable) error by stating that the first part of the scientific name is the genus (true, genus Homo) and the second is the species, which completely nullifies the concept of binomial. Sapiens alone cannot indicate a species, and this can be understood with a couple of examples, for example let's consider the species Fagus sylvatica (the beech, a tree) and Stachys sylvatica (a herbaceous plant), both of which have the specific epithet sylvatica, which refers to the fact that they are found in the woods, or let's consider Lactuca sativa (lettuce) and Avena sativa (oat), sativa simply means that they are cultivated plants. Clearly, we cannot indicate "sylvatica" or "sativa" as the species. Ditto for sapiens, or - and this is an example from the book - Panthera Leo (the lion). Harari explains to us that Panthera is the genus and Leo the species. Which makes no sense, as explained, at the same time he completely denies the binomial nature of scientific names. The concept of binomial nomenclature is simple, and it is a little perplexing that people who want to explain much more complex concepts show they have not grasped the simple ones.
