One of the most interesting facts of biology, recently discovered, is that the higher forms of animal life pass through all the stages of the lower forms of animal life. That is, the biologist examines under his microscope the contents of the egg of a bird and the contents of the egg of a fish. Up to a certain stage of development there is no perceptible difference. The bird must pass through the fish stage in order to become a bird. In exactly the same way every man passes through all the stages of development from the lowest form of ani mal life and is born into this world an animal — more highly developed than other animals, but nevertheless an animal.
