Il cofanetto, che offre una retrospettiva completa sul periodo di The River, contiene 52 brani con tantissimo materiale inedito (4 CD) e 4 ore di immagini inedite (3 DVD). Il box set comprende: il doppio album The River originale; la prima release ufficiale di The River: Single Album, un CD di outtake 1979/80; un doppio DVD con immagini mai viste prima, con nuovo montaggio e riprese tratte dal famoso show di Springsteen del 1980 a Tempe, in Arizona (definito da tutti un concerto imperdibile e mai pubblicato) e un nuovo documentario su The River intitolato The Ties That Bind e un libro illustrato contenente 200 foto rare o inedite e cimeli più un nuovo saggio di Mikal Gilmore. The River, quinto album di Springsteen, uscì il 17 ottobre 1980 come doppio album e raggiunse la posizione n. 1 della classifica Top 200 di Billboard.

Bruce Frederick Joseph Springsteen è un cantautore e chitarrista rock. Per gran parte della sua carriera ha lavorato con la E Street Band. Fra i suoi album di maggior successo si ricordano Born to Run, Darkness on the Edge of Town, The River e Born in the U.S.A. È stato ammesso alla Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, alla Songwriters Hall of Fame e alla New Jersey Hall of Fame. Vincitore di venti Grammy Awards e di un Oscar, ha ricevuto il Kennedy Center Honors. Vive nel New Jersey con la sua famiglia. Nel 2021 ha scritto con Barack Obama RENEGADES. Born in the USA (Garzanti 2021).
