An owl accountant finds a journal entry posted one minute before close by a deactivated user, then follows it from ledger timing to a cash transfer that never landed and a rehab site already losing beds, hours, and residents. A mouse's reconciliation work leads to her closest work friend—the fraud story turns into a friendship break under payroll pressure. A mole enters through a systems migration window where vendor data is moving and audit logs are thinning, follows invoice edits through go-live pressure, and saves the proof just before his own access is trimmed. The shorter pieces widen the lens. A magpie turns a tiny recurring discrepancy into bait, lets the next one pass through a watched account, and catches the rhythm of the skim—but exposing it might also expose the junior clerk who clicked the approvals. A fox remembers an ordinary coffee receipt because the date bothered him; the duplicate leads through loyalty-card timestamps to a manager using petty reimbursements as alibis. A ferret follows a cash-only reimbursement pattern out of the spreadsheet and into real towns: gas stations, job sites, a motel desk, a vendor who remembers being paid twice. The culprit is a construction company from Lowest Bid. The same internal audit tool appears in Workflow Anomalies. A CFO referenced in Assessment Protocol benefits from keeping the books unclear. The quarter still closes. But several people know which ordinary office habits are helping the lie survive.
