However, as investigators begin following the financial trail, it becomes clear that Vlasov was not the true architect of the system. Behind him stands Sergei Borodin, a powerful businessman who has quietly controlled political influence, security forces, and organized crime operations for years. While journalists and investigators focus on the public scandal, Borodin begins eliminating the remaining threats to his empire. Alexei becomes the primary target. Refusing to flee the country, Alexei decides to confront Borodin directly, knowing that the corruption network will survive unless its hidden leader is exposed. The story builds toward a final confrontation at Borodin's private estate outside the city. During the tense encounter, Borodin attempts to kill Alexei, but his own hired assassin Viktor turns against him, realizing that the system they served had grown too corrupt to justify. Borodin is killed, but Alexei is mortally wounded in the struggle. Before dying, Alexei ensures that the evidence exposing the network reaches journalists and investigators across the country. The scandal spreads through Republic of Moldova, shaking the political system and revealing years of hidden corruption. In the end, the truth survives—but only because Alexei Moraru sacrifices his life to bring it into the light.
