Fortunately, Crossmere has Marshal Rowan Bellmont, whose quiet attention and private ledger miss very little. Unfortunately, it also has Deputy Finnick Bramble, whose determination to help frequently introduces entirely new categories of difficulty. As the festival approaches, Hobwain must protect his revenue, preserve his authority, locate a missing creature, investigate stolen treasure, and explain why two glowing monsters now appear to be moving through the same lake.
