Second volume contenant les figures and the title Les ordres des colonnes). With woodcut vignette on the title-page, engraved and woodcut initials, head- and tail-pieces. Ownership entry on the title-page 'George Heron'. Contemporary blind tooled leather, colored edges (worn and rubbed newly, rcently rebacked with morocco lettering piece, new endleaves). Gutter of the title-page and last leaf reinforced with a strip of new paper, occasional foxing and light browning.

First edition (first printing) of this rare engraved architectural atlas by Sébastien Le Clerc. The first part of the work is divided into seven sections, while the second part is entirely composed of 184 engraved plates depicting various orders, their applications, niches, balustrades and more. This is the final work by the famous 17th-century painter, engraver, and military engineer from Lorraine.

Le Clerc specialised in subtle reproductive drawings, etchings and engravings of paintings. He worked primarily in Paris, where the King's painter, Charles Le Brun, counselled him to devote himself entirely to engraving. Le Clerc joined the Académie Royale de Peinture et de Sculpture in 1672, teaching perspective. He worked for Louis XIV and was appointed ''Graveur du Roi'' (attached to the Cabinet du Roi), producing engravings for the royal household. Le Clerc also periodically worked as a technical draftsman and military engineer.
