Descrizione

Radio Navigation is two subjects in one paper. The half most candidates leave until last carries more of the marks. 66 questions. 90 minutes. 75% to pass. Subject 062 sets 322 learning objectives, and 101 of them are background knowledge, not examined directly. The radio aids — NDB, VOR, DME and ILS — are worth 22 marks. Satellite navigation, its augmentation and performance-based navigation are worth 28. The examiner's favourite tricks are a picture of an instrument and a calculation with one step left out. ATPL Radio Navigation is a complete revision guide and question bank for the EASA and UK CAA airline transport pilot licence theory examination, written by an airline captain and Chief Flight Instructor, and built on all 322 learning objectives for Subject 062. It labels the background. Every objective EASA marks BK carries the letters BK where it is taught, so you know what to learn lightly and what to learn exactly. And where the syllabus is behind the world — Galileo and BeiDou "under construction" — the book teaches what the objective asks and tells you what has changed. What is inside Where the marks are, on one page, background objectives counted separately: satellite navigation pays 1.7 examinable objectives per mark, PBN 4.8. 320 practice questions with worked explanations — 254 through the chapters, plus a 66-question mock examination paper weighted exactly as the real paper is, built only from objectives the chapters did not test. No question is asked twice. The confusable pairs and Traps, and why they work in every chapter: QDM and QDR, slant range and ground range, RNAV and RNP. On the day. One flight per chapter, running the systems through a real operation. 87 clear diagrams drawn for this book: RMI, CDI and HSI faces, ILS coverage drawn to scale, and a Baro-VNAV approach on a cold day. Every figure sourced, in Numbers you must own**. A glossary and a 216-entry index. ** Eleven chapters covering the whole syllabus: radio waves, antennas and propagation; VHF direction finding, the NDB and the ADF; the VOR; DME; the ILS and MLS; radar principles, ground radar and SSR; airborne weather radar; GNSS systems, signals and errors; GNSS augmentation by ABAS, SBAS and GBAS; the PBN concept and the navigation specifications; and PBN in operation. Written for the paper you are actually sitting. The book follows ICAO Annex 10, PANS-OPS, the PBN Manual and the EASA air operations rules, and works every calculation with the syllabus's own constants. Beyond the EU and UK. Written to the EASA ATPL(A) learning objectives, which also underpin the ATPL theory examinations of the United Arab Emirates (GCAA), Qatar (QCAA), Oman, Türkiye (SHGM), Singapore (CAAS), Malaysia (CAAM), Hong Kong (CAD), Sri Lanka (CAASL), Thailand (CAAT) and Pakistan (PCAA). A page at the front shows the paper this book serves with each authority and what to add from local sources. It also serves the related SACAA (South Africa) and DGCA (India) papers. A revision guide, not a course of training: enrolment with an Approved Training Organisation remains a legal prerequisite. It contains no questions from any question bank — every question was written for this book. It is not a source of navigation data, and your operator's manual and the aircraft flight manual govern what you actually do. One of fourteen books in the Mastering ATPL series, one for each ATPL(A) theory subject, all written to the same pattern.
