The decisive difference between humans and machines, the book argues, lies not in knowledge or in thinking – but in consciousness alone. The author brings together two perspectives: that of a practitioner who has worked with computers and neural networks since the 1970s, and that of a writer who translates this experience into clear, level-headed language. The result is not a book against artificial intelligence, but one that looks more closely – and in the end hands the question back to the reader: what remains of knowledge, of thinking, of consciousness when the machine answers as well as we do?
