Early chose the true door. The other twenty did not disappear. They were supposed to. Once the Core recognized a single history as its surviving origin, the rejected versions should have collapsed back into possibility—unwritten worlds returning quietly to the darkness beneath the manuscript. Instead, they remember being real. The first sign is small. Early remembers a conversation Christopher insists never happened. Early begins encountering versions of people who know him intimately even though he has never met them. Some remember him as a survivor. Some remember him as their tormentor. Some remember Christopher as the creator. Others insist Christopher was merely another character trapped inside an older manuscript. Then one of the abandoned Christophers appears. He carries a manuscript written in Christopher Lee Spino's handwriting. Christopher did not write it. The book describes events that have not happened yet. The faceless keeper refuses to enter the new pages. For the first time, the ledger itself begins rejecting information. Lines vanish as quickly as they are recorded. Page numbers divide into competing sequences. The Core is trying to maintain one history while simultaneously carrying the weight of twenty realities that refuse erasure. Early recognizes the cruelty before Christopher does. If they force the false histories to disappear, they may be destroying living worlds. If they allow every history to remain, reality may fracture beyond repair. The problem is no longer finding the truth. It is deciding what truth is allowed to do to everything that lost. As the boundaries fail, abandoned roads cross the accepted one. Rooms overlap. Memories migrate from one person to another. A woman mourns a child who was never born in this history. A dead man walks into the tavern furious that everyone has forgotten his funeral. Christopher remembers writing sentences that exist nowhere in his files. And beneath it all, something begins collecting the rejected pieces. Not the Core. Something living in the space created when twenty realities were told they were wrong. It has no body because no surviving history gave it one. It has no name because every version called it something different. But it remembers every discarded world. And it remembers who chose against them.
