Grumpling

Welbeck Children's Books, 2027

Meet the grumpy dumpling who has had enough! Come along with Grumpling as he tries to get through his very bad day with the help of his other foody friends. Each one has a different piece of advice for Grumpling to try, from a big deep breathe to shaking it out, until Grumpling realises the thing that helped most of all was talking his feelings through with his friends. The story combines humour with a heart-warming message teaching children that instead of trying to get rid of feelings, you can learn how to manage them and be accepted for who you are. An expert child psychologist gave the review that Grumpling contains "the message that emotions don't need to be fixed, that lots of strategies can help, and that sometimes the biggest help is feeling understood. I like that the book doesn't tell children not to be grumpy; it tells them that big feelings are normal, that different coping strategies can help in different ways, and that being loved isn't contingent on always being happy."
