L’elegante box brossurato di 20 CD in edizione limitata presenta una panoramica della carriera del mitico compositore americano che abbraccia oltre sei decenni, dai primi lavori degli anni '60 alle opere più recenti tra cui le indimenticabili colonne sonore originali per STEVEN SPIELBERG (Lo Squalo, E. T., I predatori dell'arca perduta, Schindler's List), GEORGE LUCAS (Guerre Stellari), ALFRED HITCHCOCK, CLINT EASTWOOD, BRIAN DE PALMA, OLIVER STONE, MARK RYDELL, SYDNEY POLLACK e RON HOWARD.
Inoltre, la raccolta presenta anche selezioni da registrazioni con i BOSTON POPS e una serie di composizioni sinfoniche tra cui la rara "Sinfonietta for Wind Ensemble" con l'EASTMAN WIND ENSEMBLE, qui rimasterizzata partendo dai nastri da 1/4" degli archivi Deutsche Grammophon. John Williams

1932, New York

Propr. J. Towner W. Compositore statunitense. Studente di musica all'Università della California e alla Juilliard School di New York, nel 1956 viene assunto come pianista dalla Columbia Pictures e si innamora delle musiche da film. Debutta come autore di colonne sonore alla fine degli anni '50 e vince il primo Oscar nel 1971 per Il violinista sul tetto di N. Jewison. Compositore di fiducia di S. Spielberg, da Sugarland Express (1974) a La guerra dei mondi e Munich (entrambi del 2005), si aggiudica l'Oscar con le partiture di Lo squalo (1975), E.T. l'extra-terrestre (1982), e Schindler's List (1993). Famoso per la maestosità delle sue composizioni e l'uso di grandi orchestre, soprattutto la London Symphony, punta molto sull'utilizzo di leitmotiv, talmente caratterizzati da diventare indipendenti...
