When the legendary Liverpool manager Bill Shankly retired in 1974 he was leaving in place at Anfield the second outstanding team that he had assembled. Shankly's team had tasted success in domestic and European competitions and with new boss Bob Paisley at the helm now looked destined for greatness. Paisley's team achieved immortality with European Cup wins in 1977 and 1978. During the 1970s Liverpool were simple irresistible as trophy after trophy found its way to Anfield.
