This is a short novel about Nathan MacIntosh, age 19, and Rusty West, age 60. Rusty meets Nathan who was working at a low-end sleazy car lot, washing cars. Rusty was a trucker delivering cars. Rusty knew instantly that Nathan was college potential. For over a year Rusty encouraged Nathan to get himself in college. Unbeknownst to Rusty, Nathan was homeless and had been so since the death of his mom when he was 17. Nathan adopted Rusty as his dad. Then Nathans life came crashing down, he was now in jail facing serious assault charges on a police officer. When Nathan was in jail, he had no one to call for help, but Rusty. Rusty came to the jail and bailed him out. The story moves from Nathan bailed from jail to enrolling in college where he performed beyond everyone's imagination. Nathan ultimately graduates 3rd in his class. At Nathan's graduation, which was very dramatic and emotional in of itself, Rusty began to fall apart emotionally himself. His background, his convictions of sex crimes and the PTSD kicked in full blast. Rusty runs from graduation celebration afterward. . Nathan follows Rusty to a small park only to find Rusty, his adoptive dad is an emotional mess. That is when he learns his adopted dad is an ex-con, sex offender. Rusty has had a lifetime of abuse starting from a small child up to adult years. His issues were serious and ran deep. Nathan, would not give up on Rusty, just as Rusty would not give up on Nathan when he was in the time of need. This is a story of God's love and restoration. Nathan's Story is of Nathan and Rusty, a homeless kid and an ex-con, Two unlikely men, and all the 'what if's' in Nathan's life. Nathan's Story is a fictional novel of a homeless kid who adopts a man who got him off the streets and into college. Ultimately into Medical School. Rusty, an ex-con. Nathan who is homeless. Rusty just "liked the kid" with no agenda, only he followed that still small voice. Nathan's story will bring tears to your eyes. Then you will laugh. Then tears again as the two men confront fears, emotions, and abandonment and shame. The meeting in the park after graduation is very emotional. But the reader will understand in context as Rusty and Nathan confront life's tragedies and circumstances, hurts and fears, of loss abandonment, and love of God. God uses even the lowliest defiled society pariah for His good and glory. Rusty, ex-con, Nathan, a product of rape and now homeless. And how Nathan and Rusty's lives will never be the same again. The rescued becomes the rescuer!
