Unlike the humans who had betrayed, abandoned, or failed her over the years, the robot's stillness felt honest. It made no promises it couldn't keep. Her boots crunched softly on broken glass as she approached the robot's left foot. The metal was pitted and scarred from years of weather, and rust streaked down its surface like tears. She had a theory about these machines that she kept to herself – that somewhere deep in their electronic minds, they were still aware, still thinking, just trapped in bodies that no longer responded to their commands.
