Two mysterious crimes. Two deceptive trails. Two cases for Sherlock Holmes. In “A Deceptive Trail”, a man wanted for murder flees to 221B Baker Street and asks Sherlock Holmes to prove his innocence. Ironically, Holmes himself was once responsible for putting him behind bars. The fugitive insists that he has changed his ways, but Inspector Lestrade considers the evidence against him conclusive. Holmes, however, is not convinced. Could the obvious suspect be innocent after all? In “The Oskar Brodski Case”, the decapitated body of a diamond dealer is discovered on the tracks of a main railway line. Accident, suicide – or murder? The police are eager to close the case, but Sherlock Holmes notices one apparently insignificant detail: the dead man’s hat is missing. That tiny discrepancy leads the master detective onto an entirely new trail. Case 009: A Deceptive Trail / The Oskar Brodski Case presents two atmospheric Sherlock Holmes mysteries about false assumptions, misleading evidence and the importance of details others overlook. Based on stories by R. Austin Freeman and featuring the characters created by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, the volume combines classic detective fiction with two intricate historical crime mysteries.
