Il periodo trascorso dagli Hawkwind con l'etichetta Charisma Records nell'ultima parte degli anni Settanta ha visto la musica del gruppo aprire nuovi orizzonti. La collaborazione di Dave Brock e Robert Calvert nella scrittura produsse una serie di album classici come "Quark, Strangeness And Charm", "Hawklords - 25 Years On" e "PXR 5" e le loro performance dal vivo (con Calvert come abile frontman) divennero leggendarie. Il periodo tra il febbraio 1977 e il giugno 1979 vide la registrazione e la pubblicazione di questo trio di album classici, che videro gli Hawkwind adattarsi al cambiamento dei tempi musicali e adottare un approccio "new wave" sia su disco che sul palco. Questo cofanetto presenta nuovi splendidi remix 5.1 Surround Sound e Stereo di questi album realizzati da Steven Wilson e include anche una serie di rari out-takes in studio dell'epoca. È significativo che il cofanetto raccolga nuovi mix di tutte le registrazioni dal vivo sopravvissute, effettuate durante il tour del settembre 1977 della band, il concerto dei Sonic Assassins del dicembre 1977 e un concerto degli Hawklords del novembre 1978. Queste performance, mixate ex novo dai nastri multitraccia originali, contengono molti brani inediti.
