Compositore inglese. Nel 1971 fonda il gruppo Emerson, Lake & Palmer che si distingue per l'originale miscela di musica classica, jazz, rock e blues. Nel 1980 si dedica alla carriera solistica e compone musiche per le colonne sonore di Inferno (1980) di D. Argento e I falchi della notte (1981) di B. Malmuth. Interamente sue sono anche le musiche del lungometraggio animato Armageddon (1986) di J. Rosma, per il quale riceve un disco d'oro, e quelle della serie televisiva Marvel Ironman (1994).
