Have you ever read the war chapters in the Book of Mormon and found yourself white-knuckling your way through? The women are still there. They are just buried under the battles. Line Upon Line: Volume 3 - The Battle Rages follows the women of Helaman through 3 Nephi 10: the women and children taken captive by the Gadianton robbers, the mothers rationing food through a famine they didn't ask for, the women who toiled and spun through a rare season of peace, and the families listed in a proclamation alongside their flocks and herds. This volume covers some of the darkest chapters in the Book of Mormon: secret combinations seizing the government, Samuel the Lamanite's warnings, the night with no darkness, and the destruction that came before the Savior's arrival. It would be easy to read all of this as a story about judges, robbers, and generals. This volume asks what it was like for the women stuck in the middle of it. Each daily devotional includes a short scripture reading from the 1920 edition of the Book of Mormon, a personal reflection grounded in history and language, and journal prompts designed to spark honest, personal conversation with yourself and with God. This is not a commentary. It is not a lesson manual. It is one woman's continued attempt to read the Book of Mormon like it was written for her, too, and an invitation for you to do the same. If Volume 1 was about beginning a journey and Volume 2 was about building a kingdom, Volume 3 is about surviving what threatens to tear it all down. The women in these chapters didn't start these wars or choose the leaders who waged them. They lived with the consequences. We all fight battles. This volume is for anyone who has ever lived through a crisis she didn't create and wondered whether it was her fault. We aren't helpless victims. But we aren't to blame either.
