Some people are all about tradition; they like the same tunes, the same decorations, and the same warm customs that have been handed down through the ages. For others, it's a time of rebirth, when they reflect on the year that's gone and make plans for the one that's ahead. However, Christmas seems like it's about something far more profound to me this year. It's about finding a way to connect and rediscovering what really matters. It's about love, the type of love that keeps you warm when everything around you seems to be frozen solid. There's something about December that causes everyone to pause and reflect as the world becomes more subdued. There's a brief respite from the daily grind, when one may just take a minute to relax and observe the quiet. Love may bloom in such silence, almost without our awareness. The persons we see on a daily basis have new meaning. It seems like a luxury to just stroll hand in hand down a snow-covered street or share a cup of chocolate. And it's in those little moments that we start to realize Christmas is about more than simply the gifts and the decor. It concerns the individuals we share it with. Christmas seems like a tale waiting to be told this year. A tale of two hearts discovering one other in the middle of the enchantment of the season, rather than merely of Christmas happiness or joyous get-togethers. It's a tale of how love may surprise us and blossom softly and slowly, like the first snowflakes of the season descending to earth until everything is blanketed in white. It's about how the warmth of another person's hand in yours can chase away even the worst coldness and how a quick look across a busy room may seem like the spark of a thousand Christmas lights. This Christmas is different for me since it's not just about enjoying the holiday. It is about experiencing the season with someone who brings you home. It's about understanding that, similar to Christmas, love is about more than elaborate displays or idealized times. It's about the simple, daily enchantment of spending time with the person you love. And here is the tale of how I was discovered by that type of love. Unexpected, unforeseen, and utterly amazing. I can't help but reflect on the events that brought me to this point as Christmas draws near. The moments we spent laughing together, having lengthy talks outside under the stars, and feeling the crunch of the snow under our feet as we strolled around town together. I still recall how, the first time I saw those Christmas lights reflect in their eyes, I knew something was about to shift in my life.
