The afternoon sun shone directly through the window, blinding Viveka Brice as she walked down the makeshift aisle of the wedding she was going to avoid…although no one knew it yet. The interior of the sailing club, located on that remote and exclusive Aegean island, was made of marble and bronze, adding even more brilliance to the white light. Add to that the layers of veil, and she could barely see, so she had to reluctantly cling to her aggrieved stepfather's arm. He probably didn't see very well either. Otherwise, he would have challenged her for ruining his plan. He hadn't realized she wasn't Trina. She was managing to hide the fact that her sister had left the building. Her stomach was in knots with nerves and excitement. She narrowed her eyes and tried not to stare at the wedding guests standing before the priest. She deliberately avoided looking at the tall, imposing figure of the unsuspecting groom and gazed out the windows at the forest of masts bobbing in the water. Her sister had escaped that forced marriage to a stranger, she reminded herself, trying to calm her racing heart. Forty minutes ago, Trina had left her father in the room where he was dressing. She was still wearing this dress, but she hadn't put on her veil. She had promised Grigor she would be ready on time while Viveka had stayed out of her sight. Grigor didn't even know Viveka had returned to the island. As soon as Grigor left the room, Viveka helped Trina take off her dress, and then her sister helped her put it on. They hugged tightly, and then Trina disappeared into the elevator. from where she boarded a seaplane her true love had chartered. They were headed to one of the larger northern islands, where everything was ready for them to marry as soon as they landed. Viveka was buying them time by allaying suspicions, allowing the ceremony to continue as long as possible before revealing her identity and also escaping. She scanned the horizon again for the flag of the boat she'd chartered. It was impossible to see, and that made her even more nervous than the idea of boarding a perfectly safe vessel. She hated boats, but she wasn't in a position to charter a private helicopter. She'd handed over a considerable amount of her savings to Stephanos to help her get Trina on the plane. Spending the rest crossing the Aegean on a speedboat was the closest thing to her worst nightmare, but the ferry only made one trip a day and had dropped her off that morning. But she knew which berth the ship was at. She'd paid the captain to wait, and Stephanos had assured her she could leave her luggage on board safely. Once it was discovered, she wouldn't even be able to change. She'd run out to find that ship, grit her teeth, and sail off into the sunset, satisfied that she'd finally prevailed over Grigor. Her heart leaped as they reached the end of the hallway and Grigor transferred his icy fingers to Trina's boyfriend, the terrifying Mikolas Petrides. His touch sent a shiver through her. She told herself it was alarm. Nervous tension. Mikolas's touch faltered almost imperceptibly. Had he felt the current too? He wrapped his fingers around hers, sending a wave of warmth through her body. It wasn't comfort. Viveka didn't kid herself that Mikolas would be bothered by something like that. He was even more intimidating in person than in photos, just as Trina had told her. Viveka was impressed by the strength he exuded with his broad chest and shoulders. He had so much energy. masculine for Viveka's little sister. And for herself too.
