Pianist Ignasi Cambra debuts on Sony Classical with a statement of principles by choosing composers Frédéric Chopin and Franz Schubert for his SPACES project. A close collaborator of Maria Joao Pires with whom he has performed on numerous occasions in recitals playing two pianos or piano four hands, Cambra has left us memorable moments with orchestras such as the orchestra of the Mariinski Theatre, the Orchestra of Barcelona and the National Orchestra of Catalonia (OBC), the Orchestra of Vancouver or Miami under first-class conductors such as Valerie Gergiev, Tsung Yeh, Eduardo Marturet, Josep Pons or Salvador Brotons, among others. As it is stated on the CD booklet notes, Ignasi Cambra, delivers a version that will remain as a benchmark for future generations, because it picks up the baton of a whole pianistic tradition where freedom and in-depth knowledge have forged that sound corpus that we find indispensable to understand the universe. Cambra, in his daily struggle for self improvement, found a whole new sonic dimension in sound and the piano as a transforming element, beyond what otherwise exists for so many of us. Perhaps that is why we find so many things in music that are on the fringes of everyday life and that we can rediscover in this recital. With this work, Ignasi Cambra encourages us to share with him a myriad of new existences that can be found when listening to the flowing sounds of his masterly interpretation of the Impromptus by Schubert and Chopin. Cambra, blind since birth, turned sound into the canon of all that exists, but above all in this existence on the fringes of what for many of us is "what exists".
