She was more of a jeans or leggings and T-shirt kind of girl, but today she was wearing a very chic outfit whose price had shocked her. Not because she couldn't afford it, but because the price could have fed several of the families supported by the charity she had worked with. Her stomach churned as she remembered the reason she'd been forced to leave. The same reason she was here now. After her father had made his demands clear, her mother had helped ensure she had everything appropriate for her new position: clothes, shoes, makeup, manicures, hairstyling, and even a new phone. The list was endless. But the end justified the means, and she could always return her mother's Chanel outfits to add to her collection for her next charity auction. The human resources employee smiled at her, but the smile wasn't reflected in her cold blue eyes. Were they all like that around here? So distant? But then she thought something else.
