An enlightening coming-of-age novel about a biracial boy questioning the limitations society puts on him
Stephen is tired of being told what lane he belongs in. As a biracial kid with a black dad and a white mom, he feels like he's part of two different worlds. Even his friends are split into two separate groups--and he's starting to notice the way strangers treat him when he hangs out with his white friends. Maybe that means he can't do things white kids can . . . or maybe it means he has something to prove.
Stephen and his black friends can't believe it when an unarmed black New York City teenager is shot and killed by police. But while it hits close to home for them, his white friends don't understand all the repercussions. How can his friends be so opposite but in other ways the same?
Torrey Maldonado, author of the highly acclaimed Tight, does a masterful job showing a young boy coming of age in a racially charged world, trying to blaze a way to be his best self.
