Kaikeyi's Exiles: A Twisted Ramayana reimagines the ancient epic by inverting its central exile. Instead of Rama being banished to the forest, King Dasharatha takes the exile and request Kaikeyi to accompany him, a decision that alters the destinies of gods, mortals, and demons alike. In this alternate universe, Kaikeyi—once the fiery instigator of Rama's suffering—becomes both victim and catalyst of a grander cosmic struggle. Her abduction by Ravana ignites a war that brings Rama into alliance with the vanaras and culminates in the fall of Lanka's tyrant. Yet victory is laced with bitterness: Kaikeyi refuses to return to Ayodhya, instead marrying Ravana's brother Vibhishana in a cold act of defiance that dooms him to exhaustion and death, and drives Dasharatha to his own grief-stricken end. The latter half of the novella transforms tragedy into redemption. Kaikeyi, now queen of a reformed Lanka, invites her son Bharata to rule Lanka, forging a lasting bond between the two once-opposed realms. Peace reigns briefly before the rise of Ahiravana, a shadowy underworld sorcerer whose invasion forces Ayodhya and Lanka to unite once more. Under Rama's divine command and Kaikeyi's rekindled warrior spirit, humans, vanaras, and Rakshasas wage an epic battle beneath the sea, triumphing through unity and faith. In the end, Kaikeyi's journey—from ambition and betrayal to wisdom and reconciliation—embodies the novella's central theme: that dharma endures not through destiny alone, but through the courage to rewrite fate itself.
