Life as a Houseplant

Imagine a generic houseplant. Its needs are pretty simple; sunlight, water, and CO2. It doesn't have a brain (centralized nervous system) and therefore lacks some needs that we as people have. We know that plants have receptors that can perceive the information needed to sustain life. If a plant is able to fulfill all of its needs its existence is enjoyable, if not it will wither and die. This is the same for all lifeforms, if a dog's needs are fulfilled it will be happy, if not it will not only be unhappy, but also unhealthy. So the question comes up as to why modern human beings are so unhappy and mental disorders (such as anxiety, depression, ADHD, etc.) are so rampant. Well this is because we all have needs that we forgot how to fulfill. All life forms have receptors that help the organism fulfill its needs. If your needs are not met, life will be miserable. You get uncomfortable when you're hungry but that feeling goes away when you eat. In this exact same way, your body gets uncomfortable when social needs aren't met and therefore causes you to feel emotions that can dissipate the exact way hunger does after a meal if dealt with properly. We are but houseplants sitting in the shade, withering away.
