Intriguing, interesting, original and fast-paced. At the start it 's a bit difficult to keep up with everything 'cause the reader is put right in the middle of action: there aren't explanations or introductions, we meet associations and characters as if we'd already know them and their reality and how the world in which they're living works. Going' on we learn what we need to know, something will eventually be cleared up later, something else is left to our imagination so it's a challenging reading that requires a constant level of attention. The plot captures you completely since Kate starts investigating and after the first few chapters it becomes very clear that the journey is far from slow and relaxing. The concept of the vampire's degenerative biology is very interesting and every character is attractive 'cause he/she could be the hero and the suspect at the same time, they're all very special and unusual people but give out a 'normal' feeling, especially Kate: she makes mistakes, makes a fool of herself, admits she was stupid, and she does the strangest things and the most human at the same time. We sense a lot of things, we're almost there to guess Kate' secrets, about her powers and why she has to hide, what she can't/doesn't want to reveal, but in the end we can't give anything for sure; it is also good to see that magic and wounds require a price, even high, and that this price has to be paid by every character so that there aren't invincible superheroes. What I like the most is that the authors manage to make us smell a track and then distract us with the same ease in which happens to Kate and her fellows. There's always something unexpected. I love and really appreciate how the MC relationship grows: the slow build up is much more stimulating than the "Mine-at first-sight" thing. Unless you have problems with being not familiar with anatomy, medicine, autopsies and technical terminology or with some splatter images, the time spent reading this book flies
