A Package from My Future Self

What if the person you become ten years from now could send you a package today? Daniel Carter is thirty-eight years old, lives alone, and has spent twelve years building a life that works. He has a steady job as a sales planning manager. He gets along with his coworkers. He pays his bills, orders takeout on Friday nights, sleeps late on Saturdays, and tells himself he'll visit his parents when he has more time. Daniel isn't unhappy. But somewhere along the way, he stopped noticing how much of his life he had quietly put aside. Photography. An old college friend. Time with his parents. Weekends that once meant going somewhere simply because he wanted to see what was there. Then, on an ordinary Tuesday evening, Daniel finds a package outside his apartment. He doesn't remember ordering anything. The recipient is Daniel Carter. So is the sender. And where the return address should be, there is only one impossible number: 2036. Ten years in the future. But the box doesn't contain lottery numbers, investment tips, or warnings about disasters yet to come. Instead, Daniel receives something far more ordinary. A pair of old sneakers. And that is only the beginning. Week after week, more packages arrive—a family photograph, an old cassette tape, a camera battery, a receipt from twelve years ago, a mug, and a key that doesn't seem to fit anything. Each object points Daniel toward something he once knew, someone he has neglected, or a part of himself he left behind. One walk. One phone call. One photograph. One evening reclaimed from work. None of these things seems large enough to change a life. But perhaps a life doesn't have to change all at once. A Package from My Future Self (1 of 2) is a warm, reflective contemporary novel with a touch of magical realism about the things we postpone, the people we assume will always be there, and the small choices that can quietly lead us back to our own lives.
