Three Knocks

Every night, at precisely 2:17 a.m., three slow knocks echo against the lighthouse door, shattering Frank Lowery's lonely vigil. Isolated on Blackwater Island in 1958, he dismisses the eerie ritual as exhaustion, a trick of the mind. But the chilling wet footprints leading nowhere, and the phantom memories of his vanished assistant, West Calderon, claw at his sanity. The relentless knocking continues, each thud a hammer blow against Frank's fraying grip on reality. Old logbook entries, scrawled in his own hand, speak of months of identical knocks and conversations with a visitor he can't recall. Is the island's isolation finally breaking him, or is something far more sinister stirring in the depths of his memory? Frank is forced to confront the impossible. He remembers West, the stormy night, the desperate act. The knocks aren't just a ghost's call; they are the echoing guilt of his own suppressed actions, a terrifying reminder of what he's done. But what if the truth he's fighting to suppress is far more monstrous than he could ever imagine? As the final, fateful knocks sound, Frank braces himself for West's spectral return, only to find an empty threshold. The terrifying truth is revealed in the logbook's chilling final entry: the knocks have never come from outside. But with seawater dripping onto the steps and three more knocks sounding from the locked lantern room behind him, has Frank's torment finally become a horrifying reality?
