Three Plays

This audiobook is narrated by an AI Voice. Greek culture, and subsequently throughout European literature, playwriting birthed the genre of tragedy. But is there a place for a similar literary form within traditional Jewish culture, centered as it is on faith in a single Creator? "A King who causes death, restores life, and brings forth salvation," recites a Jew three times daily in prayer. At the heart of this prayer lies a core truth: while failure, tragedy, and death inevitably accompany human existence and Jewish history, it is precisely from these depths that success, deeper insight, and new life emerge. This is the essence of the Jewish worldview. The three plays collected here give voice to this unique perspective—a vision that has guided the Jewish people through generations, setting it fundamentally apart from the traditions of Greco-European tragedy. Menachem Levy writes drama and historical narratives. A playwright and storyteller, he explores human conflict, memory, and the echoes of the past that shape present lives.
