So, you're looking for some guidance on essay writing to get you ready for university or college? But, you also can't be bothered to spend hours reading some boring book about it. No worries my friend, you have found exactly what you are looking for! This quick down & dirty guide will gently take your hand and walk you through the whole process from start to finish. If you follow the steps outlined in this guide, I can almost guarantee you that the stresses and worries of writing essays will be swiftly put to bed. As the title suggests, this is a 'quick' guide and should take you just over an hour to read from cover to cover. The reason I wrote this guide was to give students some reassurance that writing essays can be an enjoyable and very rewarding process. Also, as a lovely little bonus, this guide also comes with an associated YouTube channel titled 'Down and Dirty Essay Tips' that I will personally be contributing to. This channel will host some very amateur animated videos that explain some of the processes included in this guide. So, go check it out! A MESSAGE FROM THE AUTHOR Dear Student, From the bottom of my heart, I want to take this opportunity to thank you for considering this guide whilst seeking out assistance in your higher education essay writing. I decided to compile this guide immediately after completing an LLM in International Human Rights Law as I wanted to record all the tips and tricks I had acquired from my own experiences, so that future students may benefit from them. It wasn't until the very final semesters that I had finally started to grasp the fundamentals of the essay writing process, and begun to perfect my own tried and tested model! I wish that there had been a guide like this one available to me at the very start of my studies so that I did not have to go through the trial and error process to perfect this process. This is what motivated me to compile this guide for you to benefit from. Subsequently, I was awarded a Distinction for the above mentioned LLM as well as previously gaining a First-Class with Honours undergraduate degree in Intelligence and International Relations. However, the first grades I received during my undergraduate degree for the first two modules were barely scraping a Third (circa 50%). This was a real shock to the system, but I managed to inwardly digest the feedback and gradually improve my grades enough to receive that First-Class grade. Therefore, though I started out on my higher education journey with relatively poor grades, I was able to adapt in order to improve them and finally maintain them at the postgraduate level. As such, I believe I have a wealth of expertise to offer in this present student's guide to writing academic essays. The title of the book was chosen based on the fact that I wanted to keep this guide as short as humanly possible, whilst also including a great deal of useful information. So, it really is a quick down-and-dirty guide, thrown together over a few months, before I started to forget about all the tips and tricks I believe to be essential in gaining those top grades. I sincerely hope that you find this guide useful, and even if you only use a couple of my tips or follow a segment of the overall model, I will be proud. I also mention throughout that I have designed this guide so that you as the reader can reach your full potential at university, but also to alleviate any anxiety that may be associated with the stresses of higher education life. I genuinely mean that. Some people like to say, 'Good luck,' at times like this, but I prefer the Japanese version, 'Ganbatte,' which literally translates as, 'Do your best!' So, don't leave things to chance. Just do your best! Josh
